OurStory Curriculum

  • REALSOUL offers a K-8 Ethnic Studies curriculum rooted in arts education and culturally responsive teaching. Each unit is centered around a REALSOUL poster and designed as interdisciplinary lesson plans for Grades 2-3, 4-5, and 6-8, helping students engage with social justice, community, and identity through age-appropriate learning.

  • REALSOUL lesson plans are designed as flexible, interdisciplinary curriculum units that can be used across subjects, grade levels, or teaching teams. Educators can implement one lesson or a full sequence, making it easy to integrate Ethnic Studies, arts integration, and project-based learning into existing classroom structures.

  • Our lesson guides are designed for educators, but include student-facing materials that support classroom implementation. Each unit provides age-appropriate worksheets, readings, and activities, making it accessible for K-8 students while supporting teachers in delivering culturally responsive and inclusive instruction.

  • Each lesson is designed to be 60-120 minutes, supporting flexible classroom use. Educators can focus on Analyze and Reflect sections for shorter lessons or extend learning through Transform & Act for project-based, community-connected work. Many lessons can also expand into multi-day or semester-long interdisciplinary units.

  • We recognize that students have varying reading levels. Each lesson includes differentiated readings- “beginner” and “advanced,” to support equitable access to Ethnic Studies content. This allows teachers to meet diverse learning needs while maintaining engagement and comprehension across K-8 classrooms.

  • Yes. REALSOUL curriculum aligns with California Common Core State Standards and integrates Learning for Justice’s Social Justice Standards.
